The story of Lale, a young Austrian Jew, who spends 2 1/2 years in the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Berkenau. Shortly after his arrival, he is assigned the job of tattooist, marking the numbers on other prisoners' arms as they enter. He develops a special admiration for a young woman who won't tell him her name.

My cousin had just been telling me about this book when I stumbled across it in a Little Free Library. It lived up to its reputation - interesting, moving, memorable. I'm going to see if she wants another copy to pass on to someone, otherwise I'll leave it in a Little Free Library or similar spot for another reader.
