Edgar Award finalist 2017. it was a very good book and the first time I've ever read a book about rape in this way. the story is based on the author's own experiences. She's excellent at using the vernacular of the areas where she's at. it doesn't seem like a thriller yet at the same time I read the whole thing in one sitting. I like the way she portrayed the perpetrator and where he came from how he grew up. She has a way to to display the context which shows how the offender views the event, what Society thinks of him and his place in society. good ending to the book also.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Oooh, Bodega, I miss a place like that here... well, there are plenty of drinkeries but not quite the same feel. And none with a lovely reading corner and enjoyable for a lunch on a cold winter day... oh wait, it will - by local standards - be a cold winter day so to speak tomorrow here, when the temperatures will be in their low 40s (under 10c). Right now it's still around 80f (22C), later tonight it'll drop to freezing night temperatures. Time to let this travely book enjoy its journey; found a perfect spot for it in a place of art called "The Bookshelf", close to Alamo Drafthouse, Kerbey Lane and BD Riley's on Mueler... stay warm!

Safe journey little book - I hope you'll make many new friends on your travels!

"Don't ever apologize to an author for buying something in paperback, or taking it out from a library (that's what they're there for. Use your library). Don't apologize to this author for buying books second hand, or getting them from bookcrossing or borrowing a friend's copy. What's important to me is that people read the books and enjoy them, and that, at some point in there, the book was bought by someone. And that people who like things, tell other people. The most important thing is that people read... "

The review I read by a previous reader was right on target. Dark Chapter is the story of a woman who is attacked and raped, who suffers and eventually recovers and advocates for other victims. I found the story gritty and fascinating. I highly recommend reading this book and I look forward to reading more by Winnie Li.
I left the book at an airBnb in Port Isabel, South Padre Island, Texas.
