About the Book:
Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.
But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond's big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.
My Review
I found this novel a really tough one to warm up to. Which is a shame because the 2nd half is really quite wonderful.

Oh, quite a story. In the beginning I had a bit of trouble with the story as Eleanor amused me but also irritated me a bit, so after reading some I turned to another book. After a while I picked it up again and it turned out to be quite good. The story is surprisingly rough and touching but Eleanor's character makes it a bit lighter and funny, I did laugh few times here and there. It was actually a perfect read for the social work student in me. Nice combination of light and deep.

Yes, the book is on its way to Annimanni. It was nice meeting you bookwormess!
Edit. 31.3.2019 I read the book myself. Eleanor's character was interesting and I liked the way how her past was revealed.

Eleanor is here! Thanks very much :)
This is one of those books that keep you up way too late into the night, because you just can't put it down. So now, yawn. :) But yes, I loved Eleanor from the very beginning and was completely absorbed by the time I'd read the first 100 pages or so. I tend to enjoy a mixture of sad and funny and this, of course, was both. I enjoyed the way Eleanor's past was gradually revealed and I adored her way of speaking, her vocabulary (I would've enjoyed this as an audiobook too, I think). The descriptions of her loneliness were incredibly touching and her encounters with the new (good) people in her life heartwarming. All in all, I found the characters quite plausible and authentic, real. Despite all the sadness, this was a true feel good book and perfect reading at this particular moment in time. Thank you for sharing!
Wishlist tag, enjoy!

I found the book in the free library and what a find it was. I really enjoyed it. Once I was over the halfway point I was hooked and couldn't put it down. I have recommended it to my partner so it's not yet finished being read in this house. After that I shall send it to the other side of Belgium to journey onwards. I'll post again once it's on its way.

Like a few others here I found it hard to get into this book but it really pays off in the end! So don’t give up too early 😉 It is a beautiful story about loneliness, connection and self-acceptance.
