Thank you very much for this book and your beautiful card Lamilla.
I usually enjoy the "classic" Russian authors, while I haven't read this book yet, so this was a good choice to send me : ) Much appreciated!

A Nest of the Gentry was a decent book. After an easy start, the action loses its pace somehow towards the middle of the narration but it picks up again towards the end. Meanwhile, when the main plot stalled somehow, I found interesting the background information and feedback on the characters' family trees and upbringing.

A modern reader might find all this melodrama, theatrinism and the manners of the high or high-want-to-be class of the era in Russia a bit dull and incomprehensive to be honest, but still insightful.
Reading this novel outside its historical context, while not great, it was an interesting and insightful story non the less. What makes it more interesting and gives it a different perspective though, is to place it exactly in context, inside the historical period it takes place in and it was written in. Knowing about the author's life and the whole political situation and discussions of the era, sheds a different light on the plot... I'll not analyse this here, but this edition makes a good work on that, providing a very good CV of Ivan Turgenev and various notes.

This wasn't my most favorite book of all times or something, but I'm glad I read it, I liked it and I learned a lot too!
