I picked up this book at a local telephone box book exchange. It has an inscription on the inner cover, must have been a present from a son to his Mother which I thought was lovely.

This really wasn't what I was expecting - but I really liked it. I thought, at first, that this was going to be a biography of the author's actual life, but the introduction proves that this is a piece of fiction. But it isn't like the TV show at all. The characters are similar, and many of the same traits that make my laugh at the show are there, but there is a much more serious thread runs through the book. Agnes Browne, recent widow, struggling with 7 young children, may well grow into the Mrs Brown we love on the TV. But here, her life isn't as easy - but I think the really sad thing is that she doesn't realise how hard it is. But the humour is great - the scene in the courtroom is perfect, just the sort of hilarious scene we're used to watching.
A good read - I'll definitely be tracking down the other books in the trilogy.
