I bought this book tonight at a local charity shop. I've been working on a WW1 research project lately, so that era is sort of dominating my life at the moment! I saw this book while I was looking for something else and I've heard the story is good, so I picked it up. I haven't seen the play or the movie, and I haven't read the book, so I am completely new to War Horse. I don't know much about what to expect going into it, but I will probably read it soon and I'll post again after that!

This was a very moving book. If I understand it correctly, it is a fictional story inspired by a real horse. I'm not sure that I do understand that correctly, but I believe that's the case. Anyway, as I said, I thought it was very moving. I quite liked it.

I have been reading a lot of WW1 literature lately, and while it's always difficult subject matter, I enjoyed this book much more than some other things I've read recently. In addition to having strong characters and an interesting story, I thought it did a really good job of showing the diversity of the people whose lives were lost or forever changed during the Great War, as well as the fundamental similarity of those various people.

As the centenary of the Armistice approaches I plan to pass on a few WW1 books I have around, including this one. The specific details of the release aren't known yet.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

As tomorrow marks 100 years since the Armistice effectively ended the First World War, I am releasing some WW1 related books at war memorials this weekend. I left this one in St. George this morning, propped up against the cenotaph.

If you've found this book, thanks for picking it up and checking out its journal! If you're new to bookcrossing, welcome. We'd love it if you'd stick around with us a while. I really hope that you enjoy both this book and the whole bookcrossing experience!

This book was released as part of the 2018 "52 Towns in 52 Weeks" Release Challenge. St. George was Town #42 for me!
