Part of my summer reading and attempt to better understand the Trump presidency. Amanda Carpenter, a conservative Republican and former staffer for Jim DeMint and Ted Cruz, examines how Donald Trump lies and how he destroys his opponents by means of the "gaslighting process", a highly specific method that she analyzes and documents. A victim herself of gaslighting by the Trump 2016 campaign Carpenter goes into the process in great detail. I would somewhat take issue with her contention that we "like it" when Trump lies, and I would especially call Carpenter on her failure to hold her own party more responsible for the country's slide into the "swampy" context that made the Trump presidency possible.
