[DIFFERENT COVER ART]

From the inside cover:

"Set in Oxford in the 1660s - a time and place of great intellectual, scientific, religious and political ferment - this remarkable novel centres around a young woman, Sarah Blundy, who stands accused of the murder of Robert Grove, a fellow of New College. Four witnesses describe the events surrounding his death: Marco da Cola, a Venetian Catholic intent on claiming credit for the invention of blood transfusion; Jack Prescott, the son of a supposed traitor to the Royalist cause, determined to vindicate this father; John Wallis, chief cryptographer to both Cromwell and Charles II, a mathematician, theologian and inveterate plotter; and Anthony Wood, the famous Oxford antiquary. Each one tells their version of what happened but only one reveals the extraordinary truth. Brilliantly written, utterly convincing, gripping from the first page to the last, 'An Instance Of The Fingerpost' is a magnificent tour de force."

Picked up cheaply, especially for BookCrossing purposes.

I read this many years ago. I can remember it was utterly engrossing, atmospheric and immersive and that it took a surprising turn at the end. Yes, it's quite complex - but, for me, it well rewarded the effort I put in!

I'm planning to release this at this Tuesday evening's 'Authors-Beginning-With-I'-themed BC Meetup being held at The Brigantes in York from 7pm onwards... ('I' is for Iain!)

Released 5 yrs ago (9/25/2018 UTC) at Brigantes Bar & Brasserie OBCZ / Meetup Venue in York, North Yorkshire United Kingdom

Picked up at the September York Bookcrossing meetup.

Released 5 yrs ago (1/22/2019 UTC) at Brigantes Bar & Brasserie OBCZ / Meetup Venue in York, North Yorkshire United Kingdom

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Read this a few years ago and declared it my book of the year, and it was a pleasure to dive into it again. This is such a good exploration of post-Civil War Britain. The plot is tight and twisty, and I love any book with unreliable narrators. The religious element of the book is handled so delicately and beautifully.

My only problem with the book is the amount of testing on animals and animal cruelty - I really struggle to read this. But that's a personal thing - objectively I think this is a tremendous book.

To be released at the January York Bookcrossing meetup.
