I've had this softcover for some time, and thought it was time it went traveling. It's an anthology of weird fiction from a variety of authors, all set in Maine - and yes, Stephen King is among the contributors! (From the title it sounded more like a travel guide to weird locations in the state; luckily, most of these locations either don't exist at all or aren't nearly as haunted/infested by vampires/whatever as in the stories!)

Among my favorites:

The oldest story here, Harriet Prescott Spofford's "Circumstance," is also the tale whose illustration appears on the cover. First published in 1860, it was inspired by family stories of events from pioneering days, though I hope the author's ancestors didn't have to cope with the demonic fiend shown here! The story's an unusual one, with the terror of the beast contrasting with the all-too-real dangers of life on the frontier.

King's "One for the Road," which takes place in a small town outside the vampire-haunted Jerusalem's Lot, some years after the events of Salem's Lot.

Jane Yolen's "One Old Man, With Seals" takes a character from ancient Greek myth and casts him ashore on a Maine lighthouse, where the elderly ex-librarian who lives there wants to take advantage of his magical gift.

Fredric Brown's "Death is a White Rabbit" pits the protagonists against a mad scientist with the ability to control animals - and who's already caused several human deaths through his experiments. Improbable but suspenseful!

There are also tales of cannibals, of aliens, sea serpents, the wendigo, and more.
