Lies, rumours and guilt snowball, causing the parents, Joanna and Alistair, to slowly turn against each other. Finally Joanna starts thinking the unthinkable: could the truth be even more terrible than she suspected? And what will it take to make things right?
The Cry is a dark psychological thriller with a gripping moral dilemma at its heart and characters who will keep you guessing on every page
The story starts with every parent's nightmare: a long-haul flight with a screaming baby, so it's already tense when things become even worse. What comes next is a study of loss, grief, betrayal and manipulation. Without giving too much of the plot away, the cover text above only gives the "external" viewpoint whereas the story is actually told by two characters on the inside who are on opposite sides of the moral dilemma, and that colours your own perspective. The opening chapters cleverly imply one possible scenario, and even with all of the twists and turns of the plot, you never really question it until the truth is finally revealed.
