‘A page-turner you won’t want to put down’ TIME OUT

NOT ALL ANGELS ARE HEAVEN SENT. I AM ONE SUCH ANGEL, AND I HAVE COME TO PASS JUDGEMENT ON THE LIVING, AND THE DEAD…

A report of a rare and unusual gun – type favoured by assassins – being smuggled into the country sparks detective Harry Hole’s interest. Then a former WWII Nazi sympathiser is found with his throat cut. Next, Harry’s former partner is murdered. Why had she been trying to reach Harry on the night she was killed?
As Harry’s investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that the killer is hell-bent on serving his own justice. And while the link between the cases remains a mystery, one thing is certain: he must be stopped.

OK here I can agree with the front cover comparison to Steig Larsson where I didn’t go with it for [Arrgh…What Title? I forget] some later novel in the Harry Hole series. Yes, this was complex, though thankfully compelling so that as it rattled along at quite some pace and slid confusingly between the war time activities and the present it was quite some time before I was at ease following all the different plot lines. Riveting plot threads though and assured writing, a sound prompter to read more in the Harry Hole catalogue. A highly enjoyable read.

It was really a nasty blow to lose Ellen Gjelten Harrys ex-partner, as she was such a fine partner suiting his reflective style with her logical one.
Though after Harry’s move side-ways, Ellen was only an ex-partner by just a few days. However, that’s an aspect that’s hardly noticeable as Harry was continually phoning her for information or meeting with her to talk through his thoughts about various issues of old and new cases his brain had snagged on.

It’s clear grumpy Harry and calm Ellen had experienced a growing tolerance of each other’s foibles having shared office for two years, Harry had felt ‘habituated to her special blend of coffee grains’. More importantly when Harry had returned shattered from a foul operation in Bangkok Ellen had helped him by offering protection from garrulous senior officers and also offered in an unobtrusive way an intelligent view on work issues and sound emotional support. I liked these all these characterful details.

Hmm, so my reading notes on this book sadly dry up here, and as I’m in a pre-festive organisational tizzy I’ll halt as I do not have the time to do research … Really, I’m here to append a release journal entry for this book.
