I've never read Eat, Pray, Love but I don't think that's required here. This is, more or less, Gilbert's take on creativity. I liked a lot of what she had to say in here, especially in terms of how to pursue your projects. Some of it is a tad woo-woo for my tastes, but I admit as unlikely as it seems, I kind of like the notion of ideas being physical things that pester one person only so long before finding someone else. An enjoyable read, with a decent helping of inspiration and encouragement thrown in there.

I only spotted this book on my way out the door, but it appealed to me because of the class in Creativity in Counseling that I took summer semester. Adding it to Mt TBR.
This book was exactly what I was in need of at this point in my life. I had stopped a few things in my life to catch my breath and heal and was in danger of becoming stagnant. This book has lit a new fire within and I am now trying to harness it for interesting and noble purposes. What Gilbert says about the creative life is equally applicable to life in general -- which is another way of saying that all life has the potential to be creative if we can only see it.
There are so many great ideas and images and philosophies in this book that I have a hard time summarizing it. The first line in the book that I underlined was "Do you have the courage to bring forth the treasures that are hidden within you?" The last line I underlined was "Own your disappointment, acknowledge it for what it is, and move on." In between there were ones about the importance of living a life driven by curiosity rather than fear, the fact that authenticity matters more than originality, and basically the importance of getting out of your own head and out of your own way in order to live a life that nurtures your soul. I am hanging onto this copy of the book for future re-reading -- at least parts of it -- when I feel myself getting stuck again.
