This is actually the cover, and my copy is a great condition hardcover.
I think I have found a new favorite author. This book is so beautifully written. Based on true events that occurred in Iceland in 1828 about the last woman to be publicly executed for her role in the murder of 2 men, this book was riveting. It's the kind of book that you want to read when you know you won't be interrupted so that you can savor it - especially those last 4 chapters. As an added bonus, I learned a lot about the culture of Iceland in the early 1800s. It's my favorite book of the year.
I just found out that Burial Rites is going to be made into a movie...this would make a great movie, and I hope they do it justice!

Mailed to ReallyBookish as a RABCK. I hope you enjoy this wishlist book. Thank you for helping me celebrate my 15 year BC Anniversary!
Received today. This looks fantastic! Thank you SO much for sending it, time-traveler.
Well, I am in the minority here as this book has received many rave reviews, but I did not care for it. I am a patient reader and don't mind atmospheric, character-driven books without much plot. However, I found this book extremely slow and tedious and felt as though nothing much happened. It was strangely devoid of emotion given the premise, I felt distant from the characters, and none of the developments surprised me in the least. So, all in all, not for me!

Came home from vacation to find all kinds of book mail including this title. Thank you so much for sending it to me.
Wasn’t sure about switching from 3rd person to 1st person narration but stuck with the book and I’m glad I did. Agnes is tried and found guilty of murder in 1800’s Iceland. After being sent to live with a family and work a farm while awaiting execution, Agnes eventually begins to open up and tell her story. By the end I was heartbroken for Agnes and the family that came to believe in her. A touching story based on true events.

I enjoyed it. I was intrigued by the first few chapters. The book slowed a bit but the tension held, and by the last third of the book, I just had to read on. A nice historical fiction.
I thought this is something you might enjoy. So I am sending it as part of Holiday Gift Giving 2021. Enjoy!
Wow! You are way ahead of me this year! LOL! This looks really good. Thanks so much. I love new authors! Happy Holidays!
I found the book very interesting. By the middle, I was so intrigued I couldn't put it down. I was heartbroken by the end. So sad for Agnes and the family that had grown close to her. Looking for a new reader.
