I LOVE this book. So many great characters and a brilliant story. I've picked up this copy for a secret purpose.
And off it goes to surprise someone. ;-)

Thanks for this birthday book! I now have two copies of this on my shelf, but this one comes with a recommendation that the previous copy didn't!

My favourite two things about this book were the writing style and the characters. I thought the writing style was very poetic, and I read one review of this book that said it was almost haiku-like, which I totally agree with. The characters were super interesting - I liked that the characters appeared one way to the other characters but a different way to the reader! My only complaint about this book was that I wished the beginning had been a little faster, and the ending slower!
I'm keeping one copy of this for myself, and will take the other to Norfolk Island to hopefully find another reader.

Thanks discoverylover and bookfrogster : )
I'm not sure about this book. I read it last year and found it quite tedious and hard to get into. Have just had a re-read and appreciated it a bit more, lots of references to literature and philosophy that I would like to explore further - but instead I'm taking it to our Canberra meet-up today in Gungahlin (the first I have been to in 6 months)

At first I didn't like this book; the style, or the main character. Renée wanted to hide away; basically it seemed, not exist. I forced myself to keep reading, but I skimmed though a lot. It was only when Kakuro Ozu comes into the story that the story picked up for me, because in the story Renée's life picks up at his arrival. If not for Kakuro Ozu, the book would have been rated lower.
