This a Scottish crime novel. My favourite book by this author is "Docherty" which is just great. This one is quite good too.

I have had this book now for 20 (!!) years in my hands, and just by chance I started reading it as I needed a quick book in between non fiction stuff. I was expecting a nice crime story, but wasn't at all prepared for the exceptional style of this author and the way the characters were sketched... I loved it from the second chapter - and those are very short! There are a few sentences that made me laugh out loud, you have to like the Scottish/Glaswegian dry humour.
I was pleasantly surprised to see there are two more books with Laidlaw as protagonist, and a fourth that was finished by Ian Rankin, as sadly the author passed away in 2015, so I added them all to my TBR list and will be getting copies soon.
My deepest thanks to bookfrogster who gave me the book and opened another window in the world of Scottish noir for me. I will see that it goes to a good home where it will be appreciated.
