My reaction to reading Agatha Christie is often this question; "what is the big deal?" I see her books as mediocre mysteries and don't really understand her fame. But there are a number of factors in her favor; her gentle mockery of social classes, her genteel treatment of a grotesque subject, the dependable lack of anything graphic, and her use of both physical and psychological clues.
Arlena is a beautiful married woman carrying on an affair with a young married man at an island resort. Everyone is aware of it and feel sorry for the young man's poor wife, and wonder if Arlena's husband is aware of her philandering and how he feels about it. There is an angry teen-age step daughter, a religious leader with a fanatical gleam in his eye, and a blustering retired army man among the guests at the hotel. Join them on the seaside and see if you can guess who commits murder most foul.
