I got this slightly-battered softcover, inscribed by the author to a previous owner, at a local Savers thrift shop, and was attracted by the nicely grisly cover-art.

Later: A bit of a letdown for me, I'm afraid. The cover-art wasn't quite a match for the story, and I guessed the main story-twist early on, making the ending fall rather flat. The setup was decent: five people find themselves in a strange forest, not recalling how they got there, and are menaced by strange beings that become increasingly deadly. As the characters bicker and run and fret, some form bonds and alliances while others are willing to sell out anyone to save their own lives. The foes? Scary beings identified in-story as dullahans, from Celtic mythology, though these are presented somewhat differently than the traditional version. (I was pleased to see the reference at first; I became fond of the dullahan myth after watching the anime of "Durarara!!", which stars a dullahan in the form of a headless motorcycle rider - she's one of the most decent (and capable) characters in the story. But the dullahans in this novel have their own agenda, and it involves killing the humans in very grisly fashion.)

The writing was... not good; much editing needed here, as the author seemed to repeat points and descriptions several times per scene, and the characters spoke in a stilted fashion without any real differentiation in their voices. So, overall, not a hit with me - though some of the more atmospheric and grisly scenes could be very effective with a little tightening up of the prose.
