It was just a party. But it turned into a nightmare.

When Rachel wakes up in a strange room, the morning after a neighbour’s party, she has no memory of what happened the night before. Why did her husband leave her alone at the party? Did they row? Why are Rachel’s arms so bruised? And why are her neighbours and friends so vague about what really happened?

Little by little, Rachel pieces together the devastating events that took place in a friend’s house, at a party where she should have been safe. Everyone remembers what happened that night differently, and everyone has something to hide. But someone knows the truth about what happened to Rachel. And she’s determined to find them.

In short, a reasonable enough thriller but an easy read & so not one that had me on the edge of my seat.

To be fair I do read a lot of this genre so am maybe more aware of possible red herrings & twists than I should be. As a result events seldom catch me by surprise (more's the pity!) & this was no exception. The culprit was so obvious to me from very, very early on (& I was correct!) but the story leading up to "the big reveal" kept me reading even though I felt a build up of tension was lacking.

Character wise, the only one that had any affect on me was the odious Aaron, otherwise I felt they were all a bit two-dimensional - & not a very pleasant bunch. I didn't even engage with Rachel until the very last paragraph ;o)

A good read but given the nasty theme I would have liked it to be a bit more hard hitting & gripping.
