Bad things come in threes for Toru Okada. He loses his job, his cat disappears, and then his wife fails to return from work. His search for his wife (and his cat) introduces him to a bizarre collection of characters, including two psychic sisters, a possibly unbalanced teenager, an old soldier who witnessed the massacres on the Chinese mainland at the beginning of the Second World War, and a very shady politician.

main character wandering with little focus and this was reflected in the story. Almost as if the author wrote several different unrelated passages, and then tried to find a way of linking them together. Have to admit didnt finish it.

A weird story, as expected from Murakami. I enjoyed it, though I did feel like the threads didn't come together enough at the end. I hoped for more resolution and explanation, though the lack of it does suit the feel of the book. I'd like to see what happens in a few years too, as even that storyline is a little in the air.

Not AS bizarre as some of his others, but I wasn't quite sure there was a point to the novel.
