I am always happy to find another copy of this powerful and moving book.

Powerful. For me the strongest message was that you can't know other people's feelings and intentions. Sounds very basic, but it's easier said than done (and I speak from personal experience :-). And, of course, that all our actions have consequences.

World War II as background, or rather, a hovering, menacing presence, was effective. The characters were believable. Highly recommended.

Book Description
Publication Date: December 1, 1984
Gene was a lonely, introverted intellectual. Phineas was a handsome, taunting, daredevil athlete. What happened between them at school one summer during the early years of World War II is the subject of A Separate Peace. A great bestseller for over thirty years--one of the most starkly moving parables ever written of the dark forces that brood over the tortured world of adolescence.
