This read a little too Sex in the City from the beginning chapters. City career girl involved with an older good looking wealthy man........YUCK! However, I'm glad I stuck with it past those first few chapters, as delved into mental illness and how damaged these three friends are. Some things really bothered me; the baby fever all of the characters seemed to have, seriously not all young women and men are so deadly focused on babies or the lack thereof. Also, and I know this is nit-picky but at one point a character throws her Vitamix (yes the author did specify the brand) glass container against the wall, and it shatters. Anyone with a Vitamix knows that the jar is made with a special high tech plastic that would probably bounce off her wall. Don't be brand specific, and get it wrong. Same with the glass Tupperware.....no such thing.

Two college friends who have continued to live together and are just rambling through their lives finally come to moments when they have to make some decisions.
Cleo is an ornithologist studying hummingbirds, doing research in the Museum of Natural History, and conducting bird walks in The Ramble area of Central Park. Her mother was mentally seriously disturbed and her father concentrated his interest on his wife. They had very little money.
Smith is the daughter of a wealthy man who assumes she will come into his firm. They live in an apartment in the San Remo, an incredible building on Central Park West, and have bought Smith and her sister adjoining apartments. Smith has a consultancy which helps people to organise their homes and their lives, work which her father says is trivial.
The book follows the two young women and the relationships they have with their friends and families. Each section is written from the point of view of one of them or of someone close to them. It is a fascinating read and while I found the ending a little facile meeting the people and the city they live in was certainly interesting. Money certainly does lubricate the cogwheels of life.
I agree with Vanbiohazard about the specific brand references.
