‘A riveting, atmospheric read’ The Times
‘A chilling standalone mystery’ Daily Record
Wow, brilliant title and so convoluted, it was as ‘riveting’ and ‘chilling’ as mentioned above. It definitely slid into that ‘burning midnight oil till done’ category! I cannot say I was convinced that the condition, dissociative amnesia would present like this in such a selective manner but what do I know, and in any event worth suspension of belief for the pivotal role it played in the narrative. Plus there was the added excitement of scooting off to the internet to view maps and photographs of the landscapes described see how heart-achingly beautiful this scenery is. I’ve visited the wonderful West Coast of Scotland and the stunning Isle of Skye though not been to the Western Isles, of course now I’m itching to travel there. I had an uncle who hailed from Lewis but as most of my relatives are in Orkney those are the islands I have visited most often.
Hum, time to track down the May’s Lewis trilogy…mmm, sneaking suspicion I may have one of them already but have forgotten to strike it off my wish-list, requires investigation.

Cracking read when this gets where it’s going it is chilling! May’s narrative power, strength of characterisation, and vigorous plots plus the ability to convey the scientific premise quite clearly make Coffin Road compelling reading.
Glad to have an inkling of the utterly disruptive nature of the neonicotinoid pesticides agrochemical companies are developing for profit and how they adversely affect the memory of bees causing them to forget how to collect pollen. Dementia for bees almost and what a truly nightmarish thought that is when we know the world depends on bees - and their astounding memories - for the good they do!
WE HUMANS NEED TO TAKE ACTION - SAVE THE BEES!!!

Now listed as ‘Travelling’, because this will be posted later today in one of what is now four (!) late BIRTHDAY BOOKCROSSING parcels!
UPDATE - WED 29 AUG 2018: organisational hic-cups meant alteration to my posting schedule. In the end the total number of late BIRTHDAY BOOKCROSSING parcels totalled five, each under 2 kg’s in weight. These all entered the Postal system last thing today and will be picked up and processed on Thursday 30 August.

Arrived in Somerset as part of Mr Flutterbies9's bumper birthday set of packages. I know this is not a new author for him but with tbr having just been added to in spectacular fashion, I'm not sure how long he will take to get around to it!
Mr Flutterbies9 read this quite a while ago and enjoyed it as a standalone Peter May book. He is currently reading the author's China series at intervals now and very much enjoying that too.
I finished this just last night after it resided on tbr for too long. I had a weird feeling all the way through this that I had read it previously, but I could not recall the (rather convenient) ending. Have to agree with rainbow3 about the narrative power and vigorous plot and I did very much like the beautiful setting in the Western Isles. Overall, I did enjoy this book and the good writing pulled me through the more 'iffy' bits that I was not so sure I could believe (the selective amnesia and how the lead character dealt with it, the reactions of the daughter, the couple next door etc) and the theme of the bees was quite compelling and very informative. I thought the reactions of the local detective were somewhat underwhelming but his doubts about his own powers of detection unfortunately rang more true, so I somehow felt sympathetic towards his plight and wanted to say to him "you are better than you give yourself credit for". I will definitely read more from this author - and have several from the series that Mr Flutterbies9 has been reading to start!
No plans for this book at present but it may well go into a bookbox yet.
