This novel is based on the real life of Lale Sokolov, a survivor of Auschwitz who made it through by becoming the Tatowierer, the inmate that tattooed the new prisoners arriving at the death camp. Beyond his tale of bravery and determination, it is a wonderful love story that left me more than a little feklempt.
