"Professor Aronnax, his faithful servant, Conseil, and the Canadian harpooner, Ned Land, begin an extremely hazardous voyage to rid the seas of a little-known and terrifying sea monster. However, the "monster" turns out to be a giant submarine, commanded by the mysterious Captain Nemo, by whom they are soon held captive. So begins not only one of the great adventure classics by Jules Verne, the 'Father of Science Fiction', but also a truly fantastic voyage from the lost city of Atlantis to the South Pole. "

I am a huge Jules Verne fan! I appreciate that some people may find his novels slightly boring at parts, due to the many scientific information he tried to include in the narration. And some behaviors of his heroes and some plot twists might feel a bit farfetched and unconvincing or even simplistic to some people… But I believe that it’s important to place a book in context and it’s a bit unfair judging the “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” with criteria we may judge a book written nowadays.

Personally I enjoy plots featuring a slower pace and I like my science too, so I really enjoy Jules Verne’s books and it was a great pleasure to “revisit” this one. The plot is very imaginative for the era it was written, the characters are interesting, the sublime themes and the thoughts they provoke, the adventure element, are all…fantastic, while some outdated and wrong assumptions for what we know today, often made me smile rather than hiss!

As it happens in many Jules Verne books, my only small complain is that I’d prefer a less rushed/sharp end. But this is a minor issue comparing to the great enjoyment I always get when reading this author.

Released in a BookCrossing bag in Goody's restrooms near Piraeus port.

Good Luck my book and don't forget to write home from time to time!
