I got this handsome hardcover at a local Goodwill thrift shop. Set in 1791 Stockholm, it looks to feature a fortune-teller's spread of cards - the octavo - that may or may not actually be magical...
I appreciated the lovely cover-art, the endpaper designs, the historical timeline, and the setting - late 17th-century Stockholm. But the increasingly elaborate cons, conspiracies, and intrigues didn't hold my interest, and I gave up on this one. If a future finder writes a rave review, perhaps I'll try it again someday...
