A great overview of the history of our cosmos, introductions to several sciences, and the open question of whether humans really are alone in space. Since the book was published in 1980, some of the examples of "modern" technology or "recent" scientific achievements feel a bit dated, but it's a great book that covers a vast range of topics nevertheless.
