I enjoyed the audiobook version of this, narrated beautifully by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, and ordered this softcover so I'd have a release copy. It's part of the "Rivers of London" series about a world in which magic exists - though knowledge of this is kept from most mundanes, for the protection of all concerned. In addition to those who learn to practice magic, there are gods and goddesses, personifications of the various rivers in and around London. (I don't know if the series ever wanders seaward; what would the personifications of the oceans be like, given how powerful some of the rivers are?)

But within that setting the stories tend to be police-procedural mysteries, with side plots involving friendships and romantic complications among the characters. The main character and narrator is Peter Grant, the young police constable who's also a member of the magic-investigation Folly (aka "Falcon"), apprenticed to senior officer-and-sorcerer Nightingale. Peter's also dating Beverly Brook, goddess of the small river of the same name - she has significant powers of her own, and has some very entertaining parts to play in this story.

Peter's called in early on to investigate a death in a supposedly-empty house; seems one of the teens involved is the daughter of the powerful Lady Ty (goddess of the River Tyburn), and Lady Ty is insistent that her daughter not be smeared by the investigation. Which puts Peter in a rather awkward position...

There are other plots, of course, but this one turns out to be the focus, and involves a very powerful foe of our heroes in an unexpected context. But I liked the details of the investigation, and of the relationships between Peter and his teammates (especially his partner Galeed and his mentor Nightingale. I also appreciated the diversity of the cast, whether ethnically, socially, and/or class-wise. They also snark well {wry grin}!

[There's a TV Tropes page on the series, with some entertaining tidbits.]
