Journal Entry 2 by Yelle1107 at BC meeting 2018 in Castricum, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Saturday, July 7, 2018
Released 5 yrs ago (7/8/2018 UTC) at BC meeting 2018 in Castricum, Noord-Holland Netherlands
WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I'm taking this book to the annual Dutch BookCrossing Meeting in Castricum hoping it will find a new reader there. :)
Taken from the book buffet at the wonderful Dutch BC unconvention at a café on the beach at Castricum. I’ve been hoping to stumble upon this 1001 list book for a while, so I literally pounced upon it with delight.
On the Beach by Nevil Shute
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Grim, disturbing, brilliant. Perhaps this is the ultimate quality of life versus quantity of life novel. You have a terminal diagnosis. Do you fit in as much as you can in the time you have remaining, or do you put your fingers in your ears, curl up in a corner and sink into depression? Do you throw your normal standards and morals to the wind, go out and party till you drop and drink yourself into a stupor? Do you try to carry on with your mundane life, finding fulfilment in routine and serving your family or going to do your job? Do you hope against hope that they’ll find a cure, you’ll be the one in a million who survives against all the odds, that somehow if you just ‘keep calm and carry on’, you’ll be able to cope, whatever happens?
Read in September 2020; perfect pandemic reading.
