An atmospheric & at times unsettling read which explores the devastation that a missing child has on a family. Steven has grown up in a family where such a tragedy has occurred. His Uncle Billy disappeared many years before Steven was born & is presumed murdered by all but Steven's Nan. Steven's one ambition is to find Billy's body to bring peace & closure to his Nan. Her cruelty & indifference to Steven is heart breaking at times but Billy's disappearance has left her so bitter & twisted (as well it might!) it would seem she no longer cares about her living relatives.

The suspense builds beautifully with the letters between Steven & Avery keeping the tension growing, as Avery finally realises that the letters are from a twelve-year-old boy, resulting in a gripping climax. Well worth a read :o)

I really enjoyed this book, although 'enjoyed' almost seems inappropriate given the subject matter. It's certainly atmospheric and had hints of McCammon's 'Boy's Life' and Bradbury's 'Something Wicked This Way Comes'.
