Got home from work today to discover a large bag of books waiting for me: my share of the m-bag, dropped off by libragirl. How exciting!!! Many thanks to jamesmum and libragirl!

Oh dear, it did take me a long time to get round to reading this, didn't it?
I enjoyed the first half, but found myself getting bored once he got his teaching degree (despite the occasional flash of recognition from my own early days of teaching - that sheer panic of "what do I do now?" when confronted by a room full of teenagers). The second half of the book seemed to race through the years a bit fast, too - perhaps McCourt also realised the later part of his life wouldn't be as interesting to readers, but I kept finding myself having to flick back to work out how it was suddenly so many years later.
