I got this hardcover from an online seller. I've enjoyed reading about the many and varied shipwrecks around the world, some of them long-lost and remarkably well-preserved. This book includes overviews of wrecks from Le Griffon, one of La Salle's ships, lost and presumed sunk in the Great Lakes in 1679, to the well-known sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975. There are illustrations including photographs, newspaper articles, etchings and paintings, accounts of ships that were raised but that weren't properly preserved and crumbled away on land, and much more. There are scandals - ships that may have been scuttled on purpose, insurance scams, even one case of a captain who may have simply walked away from his wrecked ship to start a new life under an alias elsewhere...
