An interesting psychological novel about a doctor's quest to unlock the mind of a suspected political assassin, who happens to be his twenty-year old son.

Dr Paul Allen is home with his second family when a televised news report announces that the Democratic candidate for president has been shot at a rally, and Daniel, Paul's son from his first marriage, has been caught on video as the assassin.

Daniel has always been a good kid but as a child of divorced parents living on opposite US coasts, he's become used to shuttling back and forth between parent. At the age of nineteen, he quietly drops out of college and begins an aimless journey alone across the US, during which he changes even his name.

The way that the story is told alternately from the point of view of both Paul & Daniel works really well & it does keep you guessing until the very end. It does make you think about the responsibilities - and limitations - of being a parent and the capacity to provide unconditional love in the face of an unthinkable situation - who knows how one would re-act.....
