I got this softcover at Barnes and Noble, after seeing a notice at the local library for an Age of Innocence-themed "spring book retreat" in mid-June; they plan to have a showing of the 1993 film adaptation and a discussion of the book and film. Don't know if I'll attend or not, but I thought I'd release a copy of the book with the info-page about the book retreat tucked in.

I've enjoyed nearly every Wharton work I've read, and while this one isn't one of my favorites it was still well worth reading. It's a frustrating, heart-breaking account of a well-brought-up young man who's tempted to kick over the traces of his carefully-managed life, and what ensues. At times I could actually feel the walls closing in on him, not physical walls but none the less solid for all that...

[There's a TV Tropes page on the book and the film, with some entertaining tidbits.]
