Another Will Trent book - this one brings us to Macon and we finally get some closure with Lena. The story revolves around a raid on a drug house that sets off a violent chain of events. Lena was on the SWAT team that was set to take down the bad guys. Will is undercover as Bill Black, an ex-con, and he is attempting to get information to take down the head of the drug dealers, Big Whitey. Big Whitey has moved into other areas in the south and wreaked havoc. Now it appears that he's in Macon with similar intentions. Cops are dying or retiring - criminals are getting high priced lawyers and getting out of iron-clad cases - lives, especially those of children, are being forever altered, sometimes tragically. KS does write about the gritty, seamy side of life and pulls no punches with this one.
I see two silver linings with all the sadness in this novel.
**spoiler alert** do not read ahead unless you've already read the book
First, there is the that inevitable confrontation between Lena and Sara. If anything, this was almost too long in coming. Sara blamed Lena for Jeffrey's death. Now Sara is brought to Macon because Jeffrey's son (and Lena's husband) Jared is near death after an attack on him and Lena. It is good to get some closure on this storyline. Second, Sara and Will finally clear the air and Will share his past. He tells Sara "I trust you" which considering his past was almost harder for him than "I love you". This novel gives me hope that the Angie storyline could also be resolved.
Quote to remember:
All my life, I've been invisible. At school. At the home. At work. I do my job, I go home. I get up the next morning and I do it all over again...You changed that. You made me want to get up in the morning. You made me want to come home to you...You're the first person in my life who's ever really seen me.
Sara still couldn't speak, but this time it was because she was too overwhelmed. The sound of his desolation broke her in two.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I think I'd like to read a Karin Slaughter book one day, but I have heard they are pretty graphic. This is in the Little Free Library on Barbara Ct. Hopefully it finds someone who enjoys it.
