The back cover blurb of this book intrigued me with comments such as
"Wild horses couldn't drag me from this...a real tear jerker" &
"A love story. A gripping adventure & an emotionally charged tale of redemption & human strength."
....okay, I'd pretty much agree with that although it didn't have me in tears!
After Grace & her horse Pilgrim are involved in an horrific accident, Annie, for reasons she can't explain, feels she has to save the horse & in doing this hopes, somehow, to help her daughter recover from the trauma she's suffered. Tom Booker is the man she believes can help & so she sets of across America with Grace & Pilgrim to find him.
This is a story of love & trust, between man & horse... horse & child...& man & woman, & also of how a mother & father cope differently when a tragedy befalls their child.
It's well written, descriptive & believable. I had thought it might be very "horsey" but you don't need to be mad about horses to enjoy it & the descriptions & technical details were enough to add to the atmosphere without being overdone. A surprisingly good read & I'd highly recommend it.
The only thing I didn't like about it was the way it ended - not what I was expecting to happen at all but I won't say anymore for fear of spoiling it for future readers!
