Enthralled by his own exquisite portrait, Dorian Gray exchanges his soul for eternal youth and beauty. Influenced by his friend Lord Henry Wotton, he is drawn into a corrupt double life; indulging his desires in secret while remaining a gentleman in the eyes of polite society. Only his portrait bears the traces of his decadence.
The Picture of Dorian Gray was a succès de scandale. Early readers were shocked by its hints at unspeakable sins, and the book was later used as evidence against Wilde at the Old Bailey in 1895.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Sending it as a birthday group pressie.
Thanks for this - looking forward to reading it.
Thoroughly enjoyable read.
Didn't really know what to expect but found the whole book quite enthralling. Did not think I'd like it quite as much as I did.
I would like to know how the picture became 'that way' but I just accepted it and rolled with it. Giving this gem of a book 5 stars as I just couldn't get enough of it!

Thank you Nataliec7! This was a great surprise to receive today.
It was a slow start (despite being a very short novel) but once the plot's thriller-like elements kicked in, I really enjoyed this. Dorian Gray is on a life journey that simply can't last forever, so how long will it take for his misdeeds to catch up with him? And from whom will the final blow fall? I was reasonably aware of how the story ended, but even so those last pages felt fresh and cutting.
