I've never seen any of the "Kung Fu Panda" animations, but this book looked so silly I had to buy it.
A lot of it, especially the slapstick sequences, simply didn't translate from film into print. In addition, there was too much stock pathos - especially with the government's emotional prison, with bars of the ministers' own forging. By contrast, the parallels between Po's and Shen's respective childhoods - very different, but both resulting in alienation - could have been made more of.
Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable light read and it is now ready to be released, possibly in a Chinese restaurant,

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Hidden behind the menus on one of the tables.
There was a family with small children dining there when we arrived, and I'd have liked to release it where the kids might have found it, but I didn't manage it.
