This is not an ordinary book: it's a BookCrossing book! BookCrossing books are world travelers - they like to have adventures and make new friends...and every once in a while they even write home to say what they've been doing.

From the Friends of the Aina Haina Library.

A lovely book with a lovely cover. I see that this book inspired a TV series as well, although they seem to have made a number of changes that I'm not sure I like.

A minor quibble: when Charley is thinking about all the people who've worked with sugar cane, she doesn't think of Asians...but quite a lot of people from Asia were connected with sugar in the US and in South America. Although none of them ever visited Louisiana, I believe all of my great-grandparents (and two of my great-great-grandparents) moved to Hawaii from Japan because of sugar cane.

Added to Mom's TBR stack.
