WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Happy reading!
I had another wonderful visit with NorthernLights when she came to Winnipeg to take in the Huron Carole. We had a good visit on December 3 over lunch and then went to the Winnipeg OBCZ where she produced a bunch of books for the shelf. But I snagged this one since I have loved all of the books by Toni Morrison that I have read. Thanks NorthernLights for the great visit topped off by seeing Tom Jackson perform his Huron Carole concert at All Saints Anglican Church.
I didn't think this was the best book by Toni Morrison but it was interesting.
Bride is a very black African-American woman. When she was born her mother was distressed because she was light-skinned as was all of her family. Bride (who was called Lula Ann then) was aware that her mother didn't really care for her. Bride is now an executive with a cosmetics company and she is gorgeous, attracting attention wherever she goes. However her boyfriend, Booker, has recently left her saying she is not the woman he wants. Bride is devastated and commits a number of foolish acts that mean she has to take leave from her job. Not only is Bride upset about Booker leaving but her body has started to revert to prepubescence. Her past is forcing her to look at her life and confront choices she made as a child; only then will she have a chance at happiness.
I'm not a fan of magical realism which was how I viewed this book. On the other hand, there is a lot of description about cruelty and child abuse that makes it an uncomfortable read. So, as I said, not my favourite Morrison.

I left this book inside this neighbourhood book exchange. This release is for the 2020 52 Towns in 52 weeks release challenge - Town # 1.
When you find a BookCrossing book it is yours to do with what you like. You can read it and keep it or pass it on or if you don't think it is your kind of book pass it on to someone who might like it or release it in a spot for someone else to find like you just did. Whatever you choose it would be great if you could write a short note letting us know what new adventures the book is on.
