This book is an ARC that my sister gave me a couple of years ago, which I finally tried to read earlier this year. After a number of pages, I found I couldn't really get into it, so skimmed the rest. Glad I didn't put in the time to read it fully, as I have mixed feelings about what I did read. The premise is really good, but the voice of the main character just never really resonated with me during the flashbacks; I liked the bits that were in the present time. I'm not sure if I should have categorized this as SciFi/Fantasy -- though it is published by Tor Books -- as many elements feel more like general literary fiction. Except for the whole main concept. I feel like this is a book that might appeal to someone else, though, so I'm setting it free today.
