I found this softcover among the books donated to the public library for use in re-stocking the town's Little Free Libraries.
It's the first of a series about mer-folk, the "waterfire saga" - and in which a mermaid has to go on a quest to stop an attack that could threaten her entire world. I liked the concept of a band of mermaids instead of the usual ragtag bunch of misfits, and the fantasy world here seems well-realized and both beautiful and dangerous. (I liked the book's presentation as well - it's handsomely printed, with blue accents!)
