Hardly a day goes by when nine-year-old Laurent Lepage doesn't cry wolf. From alien invasions, to walking trees, to winged beasts in the woods, to dinosaurs spotted in the village of Three Pines, his tales are so extraordinary no one can possibly believe him. But when the boy disappears, the villagers are faced with the possibility that one of his tall tales might have been true. And so begins a frantic search for the boy and the truth. What they uncover deep in the forest sets off a sequence of events that leads to murder, leads to an old crime, leads to an old betrayal. A monster once visited Three Pines. And put down deep roots. And now, it is back.

Much better than the previous book in this series, 'The Long Way Home'.
I wasn't sure that the gun would be that effective after its first firing. A guided missile would take it out. Far fetched, but still a book that had me turning the pages.
I continue to not buy that Three Pines is not on any map. It has roads; likely sealed, it has electricity connected, it has phones (not mobile phones, but so...not the only place without that), it has at least two B&Bs which does indicate that enough people must know where it is; otherwise no guests, it has a bistro, it has a bookshop, a church, etc, it used to have trains running through it and there's an ex-station, it's big enough for volunteer fire fighters, and I keep reading of other features it possesses. Not a mere village. A place that big is on the map. I know this is fiction, but that is too much fiction to say this is not on a map.

Left in the little free library (86492) in Narrabundah, ACT.
