I found this good-condition softcover in this Little Free Library in Bedford MA while dropping off some books of my own. It's a look at the long history of tulips, from their origins as high-altitude plants in remote mountains to their growing popularity as garden plants and forced bulbs. The focus is on the 17th-century boom in tulip bulbs that made some people rich and bankrupted others, all in a fairly short time, and if the details of the tulip frenzy have been exaggerated at times, the actual events are dramatic enough. (Not, apparently, a sufficiently cautionary tale to prevent other market booms and busts {rueful grin}.)
