A very good book, even though sometimes it was a little bit hard to follow with some special words I didn't know. The story is full of hope, of faith, and full of rebounds. We follow Cora, a slave, who escapes and tries to make a new life.
It is a hard read but very well written and necesary to remember this dark period.

Arrived here safely today. Thank you so much for offering this up, it’s a much anticipated read for me so I’ll be starting it as soon as I finish my current read.
Since the country is on lockdown due to COVID19 we are all home and I’ve gotten a lot of reading done.
I really enjoyed this book. It can be hard to read at times because although it’s fiction we know that a it if these atrocities actually happened and it’s hard to grasp how horrible it must have been to live through it all.
As for the story I enjoyed it, I’m not sure exactly what I think of the end. Feels ilê there could be wrapped up better but doing so would also go against what the reality actually is.
Really glad I finally got to reading this. Thank you!

Arrived safely with its lovely bookmark. Thanks for sharing I look forward to reading it.
"Slavery is a sin when whites were put to the yoke, but not the African. All men are created equal unless we decide you are not a man."
In many respects I find this a hard book to review. Some of the language, in particular the use of the word 'nigger' made me cringe but it is a book that kept me wanting to turn the page. I wanted to find out what happened next, whether or not Cora got away. But I also felt that it was an uneven book, with compelling if harrowing passages alongside some that just dragged. When it tells its story it is successful but when it endeavours to teach it misses the mark. Personally I felt that the author tried to do too much with this book and would have been better served by simply telling the story and letting the facts stand for themselves. All the same I can see why it manages to garner so many admirers and despite its issues I still found it a thought provoking read.
