Not a terrible read, but I enjoyed earlier books in the series better. They just seemed to have more sparkle and shine somehow. This one felt a bit stilted and disjointed and contained a very narrow pool of suspects, which made for less suspense as to "whodunnit." Ferris and her needlecraft mystery series may simply be running out of steam. Then again, this is book number eighteen in the series, so it's had a good long run!

The books arrived safely today - many thanks! I have enjoyed the needlecraft series to this point; will see whether I agree with you about this one.

Later: I enjoyed this quite a bit - perhaps because I have a sneaking fondness for those "hoarder" TV shows, plus an abiding interest in unexpected treasures. I got a kick out of the "collectibles porn" descriptions of the many and varied items in poor Tom's collection, showing how something that most people would toss in the trash without a second thought might actually be quite valuable - though perhaps that's not the best lesson to take away from the story {rueful grin}.

I also appreciated the little nods to the relationship between Betsy and Connor, as they worked through some issues of independent people trying to form a life together relatively late in the day.

The mystery itself wasn't that satisfying to me, not for the motive nor the execution. And the little postscript about the handkerchief lace pattern was... well, offputting, at least to me. I wish the whole "long-undelivered mail" parts of the story had had a larger impact; there were some really poignant elements to that...
