An interesting memoir. I found the writing style a bit difficult to get used to at first, but then I settled into it. For me, Lorde's young adulthood was more compelling to read about than her childhood. I felt that the memoir picked up after she left home. She was not an entirely likable woman, but I admire the fact that she was honest enough not to hide her faults. All in all, a thought-provoking glimpse into the life of someone quite different from me in many ways.

I also thoroughly enjoyed this memoir. Lorde's voice is strong and unique, creating an intense image of herself. It was also interesting to read about the very different groups of friends, family, co-workers, and housemates she balanced. Her honesty about the fact that she had to portray herself socially as a different person to get by in these groups was refreshing. Her writing embraces complexity and moral grayness in herself and those around her, gently mulling over decisions and their consequences.

Thank you for sending this RABCK box of books! What I don't keep to read will be spread around to LFLs, as RABCKs, or to one of the two book fairs the BCinDC group gives away books at in Maryland.
Sounds interesting!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
All I know about Audre Lorde is her name. I keep picking this one up and putting it back down because I don't have the time to really delve into it. I think someone who took classes in women's studies or feminism and is more familiar with Lorde would probably take to this book quicker.
I'm going to put it in the bookshelf at work to either pick up again when I'm feeling more like reading an autobiography, or so someone else at work can enjoy it first.
