The writing of Before the Fall is of high quality. It is writing that is elegant and appears effortlessness that I feel it must have taken a huge effort to craft.

After a private plane crashes, the truth of what happened on board is eked out in fragments; clues and red herrings buried in exquisitely-rendered life stories of the passengers on board. The book is a drama.

The author added the back stories of the different characters though out the book.
Within the story, Noah Hawley explores the media's (and the public's) obsession with certain news stories. The author makes some observations regarding how 'news' is broadcast and how the media actually makes and controls the news they are feeding to us - often proclaiming that the public has a right to know all the details. My complaint is that Hawley painted the rightwing characters and none of the leftwing characters in a negative light. This bothered me. To me it points out one of his agendas in writing the story.

Some of the characters, I thought were underdeveloped such as Dale and Eleanor. Also, Bill’s connection to the little boy is lacking in depth.

Ohhhh this looks like a really good book! I am looking forward to starting this one. The author has worked on a few TV series that I have enjoyed: Bones and Fargo. Additionally, booklady's comments have only heightened my expectations. :) Plus it mentions NY. Thank you for sharing this book with me.

This is a new-to-me author who has written for TV shows I have enjoyed such as Fargo. So I was excited to receive this book from a friend. The story was extremely well written. It was a pleasure to read. I kept wanting to turn the page to find out what happened next. It starts with a tragedy and flashes back to fill in events. I truly liked the character Scott and his relationship with the little boy was touching. I am glad to have read it and I look forward to reading more by this author. I don't want to give away spoilers at all...so read it my book loving friends.

Arrived in the bookbox. My daughter claimed this one first, but then I want to read it.

I picked up this book thinking it would be about surviving an airplane crash (which it partly was), but it was a lot more political than I expected it to be. The fact that Bill Cunningham was a major character throughout was a strange aspect in a fictional book. I will say that his despicable, nauseating demeanor was portrayed quite accurately. Ugh! What an asshole! In real life and in the book.

I don't often read such plot-driven books, but really enjoyed this one. I could definitely imagine it as a movie. I wonder if it will be made into one, considering the author's credentials?
