I got this little softcover from Better World Books. It contains two Inspector Maigret tales, the title story and "The Man in the Street". The first one deals with a "nobody" who's found shot to death in a hotel room, and whose life turns out to include a surprising secret; this one has a very poignant twist.

"The Man in the Street" pays more homage to real-world policework than many detective stories do, with Maigret sticking to a slow-motion pursuit and waiting-game with his suspect; among other things, both of them catch colds. The case is one in which Maigret is not without sympathy, but as he says, he must get at the truth...
