I got this book at this Little Free Library in Kittery ME while dropping off some books of my own.
A true classic, this book certainly brought the concept of a time machine into popular culture, and inspired many other authors. I enjoyed the way in which an emotionally draining adventure was wrapped into a rather cozy and oh-so-British anecdote at a dinner party - which, for me, heightened the tension and fear by its contrast to the account of the planet's future. A quick read, and memorable...
The story has been filmed multiple times; I like the 1960 version, though it did take liberties with the story. The TV Tropes page for this is also entertaining.
