Follows an Egyptian girl, and her family, through 3 pivotal summers across 3 decades, from the stifling years of Mubarak's reign until just after the revolution.
Goes to J4shaw as a RABCK. Happy reading!
Arrived with me safely - apologies for the delay in a JE, I've been overseas - thanks for sharing.
My Review:
I staggered my reading of this book, therefore it possibly didn't have the impact it would have had I given it a little more focused attention.
Told in three parts by a girl at 6 years old, at college, and then in her later years. Overall I found this short novel of under 200 pages, a little "too brief" in detail to give the reader a good understanding of Egypt's history and the events the book touches on.
The book overall failed to fully engage me, and didn't leave too big of a lasting impression.
Heading off as a RABCK

arrived in Pa! Thanks for the rabck.
pulled to read, as it matches Plum's Sept challenge. Noted that it might be better to read in one swoop.
rabck from J4Shaw; An Egpytian girl's three pivotal summers across 3 decades. I didn't follow the events in Egypt (heck - I didn't know that it was a British protectorate), so head over to wikipedia first and read the history of the 1900's onward, and the book will make much more sense. Although written as fiction (perhaps to give her poetic license?), the book reads more like an autobiography of the political and cultural climate of the summers and how that affects her.
Now heading to another BC'r
